What is NextGen?


NextGen is the FAA-led modernization of our nation’s air transportation system. Its goal is to increase the safety, efficiency, capacity, predictability, and resiliency of American aviation. This overhaul brings together innovative technologies, capabilities, and procedures that improve how we fly from departure to arrival.
Airlines, general aviation operators, pilots, and air traffic controllers gain better information and tools that help passengers and cargo arrive at their destinations more quickly, while aircraft consume less fuel and produce fewer emissions. This transformation is being achieved through an ongoing rollout of improvements which began in 2007. NextGen remains on target to have all major components in place by 2025.
The modernization of the National Airspace System is one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in U.S. history.

Time-Based Flow Management (TBFM) is already deployed and being used by controllers at 20 en route air traffic control centers to adjust terminal airspace arrival times by speeding up or slowing down aircraft while they are still hundreds of miles from their destination airports.

Attend the July Reagan National Community Working Group meeting. The FAA will discuss the health effects of noise on the human body.

  The Southern Maryland Fair Skies Coalition was founded to seek solutions to decrease aircraft noise and air pollution south of DCA. The most severely impacted neighborhoods are Accokeek (CDP), Bryans Road (CDP), Bennsville (CDP), and Fort Washington (CDP), Maryland. Most of us can hear noise from low-flying aircraft. We may think the noise is only a nuisance. “Noise is defined as “unwanted sound.” Aircraft noise is one, if not the most detrimental environmental effect of aviation.
