A bill that may benefit our fight against airport noise and pollution. H. R. 976 has been introduced in Congress.

To direct the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration to enter into appropriate arrangements with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to provide for a report on the health impacts of air traffic noise and pollution, and for other purposes.


Over 70,000 airplanes fly over Accokeek, Fort Washington. and adjacent communities every year. Tremendous noise and pollution are caused by these aircraft. If we are to get relief it is important that the politicians get involved. Take a look at the cosponsors, you don’t see Stenner Hoyer or Anthony Brown who represent Accokeek, Fort Washington, and Oxon Hill. We should remember these politicians in the next election.

 A BILL

To direct the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration to enter into appropriate arrangements with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to provide for a report on the health impacts of air traffic noise and pollution, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the “Air Traffic Noise and Pollution Expert Consensus Act of 2019”.

SEC. 2. HEALTH IMPACTS OF AIR TRAFFIC NOISE AND POLLUTION.

(a) Study.—The Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration shall enter into appropriate arrangements with the Health and Medicine Division of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine under which the Division will—

(1) not later than 30 days after the date of enactment of this Act, convene a committee of experts in health and environmental science to examine the various health impacts of air traffic noise and pollution; and

(2) issue a corresponding expert consensus report that sets forth current scientific knowledge relating to the various health impacts of air traffic noise and pollution.

(b) Report.—Upon completion of the consensus report, the Division shall transmit the report to—

(1) the Administrator;

(2) the Secretary of Health and Human Services;

(3) the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency;

(4) the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Committee on Oversight and Reform of the House of Representatives; and

(5) the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs of the Senate.

Aircraft noise environmental justice issue

 Aircraft noise is also an environmental justice issue, as it disproportionately impacts children, seniors, racial minorities, and the poor.  Southern Maryland, Fair Skies Coalition, was founded to seek solutions to decrease aircraft noise and air pollution south of DCA. The most severely impacted neighborhoods are Accokeek (CDP), Bryans Road (CDP), Bennsville (CDP), and Fort Washington (CDP), Maryland. Aircraft Noise - The noise in southern Prince George’s Country has become a problem

As a result of the FAA’s NextGen program, the noise in southern Prince George’s Country has become a problem. The FAA direct over Accokeek Maryland approximately 70,000 aircraft a year using the north flow arrivals, approximately 200 airplanes a day. If you love your children, love your spouse and love your self you should read this article. Out of self-interest, you should get involved in organized opposition to the FAA implementation of the D.C. metroplex Regan North landing. The noise from overhead aircraft is constant on most days from approximately 6 am until midnight. The FAA direct over Accokeek approximately 70,000 aircraft a year using the north flow arrivals, approximately 200 airplanes a day. Most aircraft fly at an altitude of fewer than 2,500 feet.
